As skiing becomes more accessible to people of all ages, comfort and functionality in winter wear have become more important than ever. For senior skiers and those with mobility challenges, the ability to stay warm and move with ease can determine whether a day on the slopes is enjoyable or exhausting.
At Laetts, we’ve engineered our ski socks to meet these evolving needs. Through patented HygroHeat™ warmth technology and BootGlide™ low-friction innovation, our socks deliver adaptive warmth and effortless usability — redefining what performance means for seniors on the slopes.

Microvenous Thrombosis and Its Implications for Seniors
As we age, circulation efficiency can decline — a condition sometimes linked to microvenous thrombosis, where blood flow becomes partially restricted by narrowed vessels. This reduced circulation often leads to cold feet, particularly in older adults.
The problem can be compared to pouring liquid through a funnel — while entry is smooth, the outflow slows as the passage narrows. Over time, this reduced flow may lead to persistent coldness, discomfort, or even varicose conditions. For many, compression socks become necessary to maintain proper blood flow and warmth.
Laetts recognizes these physiological changes and designs socks that not only enhance warmth but also promote comfort and circulation, addressing the root cause of cold feet rather than just its symptoms.
The Thick vs. Thin Sock Debate
Many skiers instinctively reach for thicker socks to fight the cold, yet thickness alone does not guarantee warmth. Heavy socks can trap moisture, reduce breathability, and even restrict blood flow — leaving feet colder over time.
By contrast, thinner, high-performance socks allow better circulation and enhance control by improving the foot-to-boot connection. This precision is especially valued among experienced skiers who prioritize balance and sensitivity on the slopes.
At Laetts, we bridge this divide by providing multiple sock weights — from ultralight (60 g/pair) to medium (128 g/pair) — enabling skiers to choose the perfect balance between warmth, flexibility, and fit.
HygroHeat™ Technology
The HygroHeat™ warmth engine integrates advanced bio-ceramic yarns that absorb body heat and re-emit it as far-infrared (FIR) energy. This active thermal cycle keeps feet up to 8.8 °C warmer than conventional wool socks while remaining lightweight and breathable.

Choose your warmth and fit: 60g, 80g, 110g, and 128g Laetts HygroHeat™ Merino ski socks—FIR-powered warmth with precise boot feel as liners pack out.
Blended with premium Merino wool, HygroHeat™ creates the Merino Thermal System™ — a synergy that provides dryness, odor resistance, and adaptive warmth. Skiers can select their preferred weight (60 g / 80 g / 110 g / 128 g) to match boot fit and activity level. As boots pack out over time, heavier models maintain perfect insulation without bulk.

BootGlide™ Technology
For many seniors, getting ski boots on and off can be one of the hardest parts of the day — especially for those with arthritis, weaker leg strength, or post-surgery recovery.
Skiing made effortless — discover how Laetts’ HygroHeat™ and BootGlide™ technologies help people with medical conditions stay warm, comfortable, and confident from boot-up to the final run.
Laetts’ BootGlide™ technology directly addresses this challenge. By using ultra-smooth, low-friction yarns around the heel and ankle joint zones, BootGlide™ drastically reduces resistance inside the boot. The result is a swift, effortless entry and removal process that eliminates the struggle, while maintaining warmth and structural integrity.

The Benefits of Both Technologies for Seniors
When HygroHeat™ and BootGlide™ work together, the result is more than comfort — it’s empowerment. Senior skiers regain independence and confidence, knowing their gear supports their mobility, circulation, and warmth.
Many users with arthritis or post-surgery recovery have reported significant improvements, often describing these socks as “life-changing.” Some even wear them to bed for nighttime warmth and circulation support.
This adaptive innovation reflects Laetts’ core philosophy: making performance wear that enhances both active living and daily comfort. By extending HygroHeat™ to our hiking and casual lines, we ensure that seniors can enjoy Laetts comfort not only on the slopes, but also in everyday life.
Conclusion
Laetts continues to redefine what’s possible in performance socks — integrating medical insight, textile innovation, and outdoor passion into every stitch. For senior skiers, the combination of HygroHeat™ and BootGlide™ means more than warmth and ease — it means rediscovering the joy of skiing with renewed freedom and comfort.

I fished the other day with my friend, Mark, and he introduced me to Laetts socks. I am a socks guy. I love good socks. The day was very cold and windy and the water temp was sub 40 degrees. We waded in the cold water for several hours and to my surprise and elation my feet never felt the least bit cold. He gave me a pair of boot socks to try also and they are fantastic enabling boots to go on and come off much more easily. I love both socks. I 100% endorse them. Get a pair! Oh, the fishing was great and all the better as my feet were warm and I caught more fish than Mark did, at least that is my story. Kent
